Kate Middleton named new patron of Wimbledon
Second in quick succession
Kate Middleton has been named the new patron for the All England Lawn Tennis & Croquet Club, home to the prestigious Wimbledon tennis championship. The Duchess of Cambridge will take over from Queen Elizabeth II, who has served as patron for 64 years and is looking to ease some of her responsibilities, as she approaches her 90th birthday this April.
The Duchess' appointment is expected to be announced at Wimbledon this summer and given that she's a huge tennis fan and is a regular spectator at the championships, should assume her role seamlessly. Last month, the Duchess was given patronage of the RAF Air Cadets, taking over from Prince Philip.
Elsewhere, as the Queen's reassessment of her duties continue, Prince Harry has been handed patronage of the Rugby Football Union, England's official rugby association.
