Construction work has begun on the DreamWorks zone of the Dubai Parks and Resorts project, according to an announcement made today. The theme park will feature rides and attractions based on the studios hit animated films such as How to Train your Dragon, Shrek, Madagascar, and Kung Fu Panda.

Everyone's favourite characters will feature in a string of themed dining and retail outlets. The amusement rides will be based on the imagined settings of Shrek's FarFar Away, and the exotic island of the animal-governed Madagascar to name but a few of the fantastical backdrops.

The motiongate DreamWorks park will make up part of the enormous Dubai Parks and Resort complex, which spans approximately 730,000 square foot of land, with 4 million square feet being dedicated to motiongate Dubai. Other enclosures that will neighbour DreamWorks in the huge complex will be Bollywood Parks Dubai, and LEGOLAND Dubai. The mega leisure and entertainment destination will also feature Riverpark – a grand entrance plaza and Lapita, a family-themed hotel.

Speaking on the progress of the vast construction project, Raed Al Nuaimi, CEO of Dubai Parks and Resorts, said: "We are delighted to see the different entertainment projects within Dubai Parks and Resorts taking shape as planned. The smooth and seamless coordination with DreamWorks Animation has resulted in significantly accelerating the pace of the entire destination."

The park is planning to open its gates in latter part of 2016. Stay tuned to Buro 24/7 for the latest news on the projects...
