Uniqlo parent company, Fast Retailing, which also owns Theory and J Brand, is jumping on the wellness in the workplace train, offering a four-day work week to about a fifth of its workforce starting this October.

The roll-out is set to be introduced in Uniqlo's native Japan, with about 10,000 full-time employees having the option of a three-day weekend in exchange for ten-hour work days the rest of the week. With a view to extending the scheme to other territories in the future.

Workers will have to opt-in for the longer ten-hour-day and be flexible about which four days they work, including weekends. The retailer is also considering introducing a shorter week at its corporate headquarters as well as other countries if this trial goes well.
