Equestrian pursuits have an established heritage in the UAE, and as the sport of polo becomes increasingly popular among glamorous spectators and international competitors alike, Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide on Monday announced that its first-ever St. Regis Polo Resort is to be built in Dubai – The St Regis Dubai Al Habtoor Polo Resort & Club. Set to for part of the Dubailand complex and due to open its doors in 2017.

136 luxury guest rooms, 24 luxury bungalows and a host of dining options will make up the main hotel, which will stand upon the vast six-million square foot equestrian sporting complex. The resort will also host a polo club  as well as a state-of-the-art polo academy and a riding school with 500 stables.

The new resort will also include a further 138 residential villas, which will provide luxurious and spacious homes for those who wish to make the most of the grounds and advanced sporting facilities. 

Highlighting the hotel name's established connection with the luxurious sport, the region's president for Starwood Hotels & Resorts, Michael Wale said: "St Regis has long been associated with the world of polo, and we are excited to lead this milestone project together with Al Habtoor Group, an important partner for Starwood who shares the St Regis brand's passion for 'the sport of kings'."
