Rapper Nas has enlisted the help of Hirepurpose and tech giants Google and Microsoft to help fund the new initiative created by a school in New York

The new fund being created by General Assembly, a private technical school in Manhattan, is aiming to increase minority participation in the tech world. The so-called 'Opportunity Fund' will offer scholarships to women, veterans, Latinos and African-Americans.

Nas, the hip-hop artist who has stepped up his involvement in the tech sphere in recent months, is partnering up with Google, Microsoft and Hirepurpose as one of the new fund's backers.

The musician's QueensBridge Venture Partners project will aid in providing funds for scholarships to African-American and Latinos, while Google's contributions will help fund women's scholarships and Microsoft and Hirepurpose will pay for scholarships for veterans.

"This is the start of what hopefully will be a contribution to what will be a more diverse and accessible community worldwide," stated General Assembly CEO Jake Schwartz.
