Less than a year after his wife Kim Kardashian-West broke the internet with her daring Paper Magazine cover issue, Kanye West takes up the role of cover model for the publication's 'American Dream' issue. Looking moody in the Jackie Nickerson shot editorial photoshoot, West models a dark grey sweatshirt and gold chain. He also penned his own cover story for the issue.

In his own words West releases a stream of consciousness that reads as part defence; defending his ambitious, passion and position in the fashion world, and part attack; attempting to recalibrate the world's thinking, of him, and in general.

Trying to spread a positive message West hopes to make good news the new buzz: "You know, people say bad news travels fast, but this year let's make good news travel faster. You get back what you put out, and the more positive energy you put out, the more positive energy you'll get back." But curiously immediately followed this sentiment with a woeful story about how much "fighting" he has had to do to get people to understand what his mission is.

After reading his 2600 word profile that he wrote on himself, it is still not entirely clear, although it would seem that his mission can be summed up in one word – innovation: "I am not what I would consider truly a musician. I am an inventor. I am an innovator."
