Some misleading and potentially worrisome pictures were doing the social media rounds on Sunday – pictures which appeared to show 'smoke' bellowing out from the middle of Burj Khalifa. After a flurry of interest and concern online, including reports that fire engines had been called to investigate the scene at the world's tallest tower, officials released a formal statement confirming that the cloud was just seasonal fog:

"It's that time of year the clouds gather around #burjkhalifa & trick us. It's just fog, our beloved #Burjkhalifa is safe & shining!" Read the official Burj Khalifa tweet, which was retweeted on the official Dubai Police Twitter account.

The pictures came on a day when weather warnings had been issued for the region, warning of fog, cooler temperatures and the possibility of some rain, cautioning motorists to take extra care when driving. We admit that at first glance the photo is rather misleading, but its great to know that our dazzling Burj Khalifa is "safe and shining."
