Florida based sailing enthusiast, Tom Phillips, is hoping to bring the concept of the latest hydrofoil technology into the luxury of a 70-foot catamaran with the help of a Kickstarter campaign. With an ambitious target of $500,000, Phillips is offering some enticing rewards for backers: "We are seeking funding for the research, development and construction of a completely carbon fibre luxury cruising yacht that employs this foiling technology." If successful, the new foiling system will make it possible for large luxury crafts to travel at speeds of over 30 knots, as well as allow them to traverse shallow waters.

A $100 donation gets you a ticket to the official launch party at the 2016 Miami Boat Show. For $1,000 you receive 2 nights lodging in Miami, 2 boat show tickets and 2 launch party tickets and for $10,000, contributors can take a three-day cruise on the new catamaran.

Phillips' company, Zephyrous Charters, has teamed up with a dream team that includes boat builder, Peter Johnstone, founder and CEO of Gunboat, a company that specialises in building carbon fibre catamarans as well as The DNA Design Team from Holland.
