"It’s a dream come true" – Alessandra Ambrosio's Olympic Torch moment
After its star-studded inauguration party over the weekend, the exclusive Omega House in Rio de Janeiro held a Gold Night themed event, with supermodel Alessandra Ambrosio in attendance. Apart from being the night's guest of honour, the Brazilian also spoke at length about her national pride with the ongoing Olympics happening right in her backyard.
"It's such an honour to have the Olympic Games here in Rio, one of the most beautiful cities in the world," said Ambrosio. "It's a dream come true for South America, not just Brazil. Rio is an amazing city and hopefully the world can see that and see our culture," she continued.
Rio is always amazing. You can feel the warmth of the people. Right now at the Olympic Games, it's all there, plus the whole world gets to experience it. It's the place to be right now.
Prior to the opening ceremony of the Games, Ambrosio had been tasked to be an Olympic torch bearer. "To be able to run with the torch and represent my country, it's a dream come true," she said. "When you're little you see that on TV and you think: 'Wow, imagine doing that one day'. I had my whole family here with me so to be able to share with them this moment, it's a big honour."
Away from the Olympics, Ambrosio is admittedly a fan of Omega, saying their watches, "complete the look". Which is exactly what she did at the Omega event in Rio. The model was spotted wearing an Omega Seamaster Aqua Terra, of which she said, "I just love the colour. When I first saw it, I [said...] I don't want to take it off my wrist ever."
Also taking place in Rio was the star-studded grand opening night of the Omega House with Hollywood superstar Eddie Redmayne.
