The American Foundation for AIDS Research (AmfAR) names it three honourees as Harry Belafonte, Rosario Dawson and Patrick Demarchelier, ahead of this year's annual gala event...

The American Foundation for AIDS Research (AmfAR) has named its three honourees for this year, ahead of its annual gala in New York, which is set to take place just before New York Fashion Week. 

They are: ‘King of Calipso’ – Harry Belafonte – the 87-year-old human rights activist who was once a confident of Martin Luther King Jr, and is currently an ambassador for UNICEF Goodwill and the American Civil Liberties Union. The actress and philanthropist – Rosario Dawson – who has been activly involved in a number of charitable organisations in support of children, victims of abuse as well as environmental causes. And veteran fashion photographer – Patrick Demarchelier71-year-old Parisian photographer has had a prolific career in fashion and has spent much of his time dedicated to good causes. 

Belafonte has been a trustee of the foundation for the past decade and spoke at last year’s gala, where the honourees Vanessa and Joely Richardson and Peter Lindbergh were honoured. This years gala will see Shirley Bassey take to the stage to perform, in place of Grace Jones who was last years crowd pleasing entertainer.
