Italian product designer Gianluca Sada has revealed a prototype for a 'hubless bike' which can fold up to just the size of an umbrella

Quite ideal for those commuting in busy cities or perhaps need to make lots of short trips, the Sada Hubless Bicycle is a new design concept that could potentially change the way people travel.

"The wheels have no spokes, the system folds with a single movement, the packaging container can also be used as a backpack," says its Italian creator, Gianluca Sada. "It uses a system anchoring the wheels using smaller wheels held by a small frame and a specific quick clamping device. They allow you to fold the bike quickly and easily, using its special package like a trendy backpack." He says, of the innovative bicycle design.

At present, Sada is being forced to strengthen the rim of the wheels to make up for the missing spokes, which in turn has added a lot of weight, which makes it somewhat difficult to get the solid mass spinning at any great speed... Meaning that whilst the prototype is still 'in work', the key factors to fix before it being viable to manufacture are well  underway.
