An evolution in bike security

The clever engineers from Boeing and Jawbone have teamed up to create a new super-safe bike lock called Skylock

Inspired by the keyless unlocking systems seen in cars today, the innovative and sleek lock has a variety of helpful safety features and Bluetooth 4.0 — allowing it to communicate with the Skylock app on the owners smartphone.

The lock will allow you to set up proximity detection as well, so as soon as you get next to your bike it automatically unlocks. Dying phone batteries won't be a problem either as there's still a manual combination on the lock itself, and solar panels, which keep the lock's battery fully loaded...

Not only that, but the same accelerometer can also detect if you've been in a crash and will automatically ask if you're ok and if you don't respond within a reasonable amount of time it will call emergency services (or a friend/family member), giving them your exact location.

The Skylock even has built in internet and an adjustable accelerometer, meaning you can connect the lock to a local WiFi network and it will send you a notification if something unusual starts happening to your bike.

The team are still seeking $50,000 in funding, provided they meet that goal the lock should start appearing on bicycles by Decemeber 2014.
