French luxury label Louis Vuitton has released its first ever smartwatch, the Tambour Horizon, marking a new horological strategy by the maison. "We don't know where the industry of connected objects is going, but we know it's going to be massive," Louis Vuitton Chairman and Chief Executive Michael Burke told the Business of Fashion. "You can either sit on the sidelines and observe, or you can dive in and be an actor."

Powered by Google's Android operating system, the new coveted timepiece comes in three different cases and can be fully customised, courtesy of 60 interchangeable straps in addition to the multitude of digital dial options. Apart from conventional smartwatch functionalities – calls, messages and emails – the timepiece is also equipped with travel features such as My Flight and City Guide. While My Flight informs of flight details, including the gate number at the airport, City Guide suggests nearby places of interest from hotels to landmarks and restaurants thanks to the inbuilt GPS chip.
