O n the opening day of the Cannes Film Festival, de Grisogono is a sparkling jewel highlighted on many a celebrity who walk the red carpet. Here in an exclusive interview with Buro 24/7 Middle East, the Swiss luxury jewellery brand's Founder Fawaz Gruosi reflects on his "original approach, which blends earnest passion and a carefree spirit, finding success in totally unexpected ways"...

Welcome to Cannes! Tell us about the master pieces that you're showcasing here?

To celebrate the 70th edition of the Cannes Film Festival and our 15th year of presence in Cannes, this year's high jewellery collection, Love on the Rocks, is enlivened by diamonds and exceptional stones. It is a true festival of cuts, shapes and colours.

I feel love and pride for all of the pieces from our latest high jewellery collection. They are all one-of-a-kind masterpieces, the creations feature generous volumes in perfect proportion and with pure and sensual lines.

How do you translate the sketches into high jewellery for Cannes. Also tell us about the creative process...

The inspiration behind the pieces comes from either anything that surrounds me, such as nature, objects and shapes — especially when I am travelling — or from looking at a stunning precious stone. Everything I see or touch can trigger an idea and lead to a finished design.

Once the design is complete, it is our Jewellery and Watch Director's mission to follow the process of our talented jewellers and gem-setters. He has been by my side for the past 24 years and he's as passionate as I am. We have developed a unique and special working relationship that enables us to fully understand each other without even talking. During the creation process, the most important thing is to be driven by creativity and passion, and to incorporate those feelings into the jewellery pieces. That is why we ask the jewellers to put their heart, passion and soul into each work of art.

What result do you see post Cannes in correlation to celebrities and business?

Since the launch of the brand, I have been fortunate enough to have the support of several of my dear friends, who also happen to be celebrities. They certainly added to the glam-factor we embody and they've brought further attention to the brand. We are also working very hard on keeping the dialogue fresh and finding new innovative ways of engaging with our audience and incorporating new technologies.

de GRISOGONO's DNA is made up of three intrinsic components: daring creativity, exceptional craftsmanship and of course, glamour

What's the most outlandish detail you've ever included in the high jewellery collection for Cannes?

The inside of each creation is delicately engraved with open-worked set volutes, a secret message intended exclusively for the woman wearing it. This is an aesthetic that you will find in most of our high jewellery creations.

How do you describe the Location: de GRISOGONO Terrace and the suite at the Hotel Martinez in Cannes?

Every year during the Cannes Film Festival, we host an exclusive ten-day exhibition in a suite of the Hotel Martinez, overlooking the famous Croisette. The Martinez's terrace is glamorous and relaxing at the same time, a place where we can welcome celebrities, friends and clients who enjoy time out from the Cannes stress.

What about on the red carpet, who will be a de Grisogono girl this year?

Every year we dress celebrities including Hailey Baldwin and Elsa Holsk.

What do you share in common with Cannes Film Festival?

The glamour is what we have in common with the Cannes Film Festival and it has greatly helped to shape our identity. The tone was set at the opening of the first de Grisogono boutique in Geneva in 1993, which was attended by Sophia Loren.

Also don't miss what de Grisogono's Fawaz Gruosi has to say about Qataris and their "particular affinity for unique high-end jewellery and timepieces.
