Trend report: Space travel

To infinity and beyond

Ever since Christopher Kane launched his galaxy-print designs almost five years ago, the fashion industry has had a thing about space... And the trend has become an invasion. Buro 24/7 investigates

In our trend report series that has taken us from Africa to the depths of the ocean, we're taking you a little further afield this week.

With Autumn/Winter fast approaching, fashion has taken a turn towards the galactic for the season ahead, looking to the stars – quite literally in fact, with the likes of Preen referencing Star Wars character Darth Vader (boldly printed across shirts) and more than one 'trekkie'-type silhouette popping up on the radar. Take Jean Paul Gaultier's AW14 hoods for example – or should we say oxygen helmets?

Space has long stirred the minds of men, and it's a theme translated into a hot topic too when it comes to film; from the Oscar-winning Gravity by Alfonso Cuarón to the Middle East welcoming the return of Jedis and lightsabers when Star Wars: Episode VII is released in December next year, shot on location in Abu Dhabi.

For now though, we'll happily make do with channelling our inner astronaut through attire. May the force be with you:

Coach, Diesel Black Gold

Atelier Kikala, Cacharel
