Paris Fashion Week: Dior Spring/Summer '18
Inspired by women artists
"As in all fairy tales, before finding the treasure, on my way I met dragons, witches, magicians and the angel of temperance." And as in all Maria Grazia Chiuri's collections for Dior, she finds a fable that is as fantastical as it is a mirror of the world around us to inspire her vision for the season. This Spring/Summer '18 collection Chiuri used Niki de Saint Phalle's excerpt to structure her own story.
Painted in blue, black, chambray blue, petal pink and a fire-esque yellow the cuts came complete in lace-layered skirts, leather biker suits, plastic visors, polka dot button up blouses, red back spider emblazoned sweaters, followed by dragon printed jumpers, cape coats, brimmed hats, shearling hooded coats, checkered "Christian Dior" emblazoned jackets, active wear rain coats and dresses dripping in leopard print and tulle. Then came the accessories: berets, train conductor hats, triable earrings, mesh knee-high boots and chockers layered with long necklaces.
Each look was unfolded inside a cave, a dragon-like den if you will, which was carefully crafted with serpent-scale glass, to mimick the reflection of silhouette — perhaps the view from the dragon's eyes instead.
