Tory Burch keeps touch with her roots as she presents her Spring/Summer 16 collection in New York. Her decorate flair and colourful codes come to life through a long-loved Burch stalwart – the caftan. Addressed with a renewed aesthetic, the caftan has been chiseled down, refined and adapted, and the effect is beguiling.

The savvy silhouette sees the designer's inspiration materialise – finding beauty in unexpected places – her attention to detail played into the concept, intricate embroidery, an orange thread woven into a drop-waist, an asymmetric slip just so and a sleeve length measured to the perfect quarter.

But there was something of an island feel to the lineup too, the bright use of colour (a particular area of genius for Burch) and the exotic summery composition of tunics and caftans, all exuded a liveliness and sense of joy. A sophisticated note came through with the white goddess-like strapless dress and the simple and effective use of gold embroidery on crisp white.
