If New York Fashion Week (NYFW) were the NFL, Tommy Hilfiger would be MVP (Most Valuable Player) okay, enough with the sports acronyms, but the similarities will continue. If you managed to catch the Buro 24/7 live stream of the Tommy Hilfiger Autumn/Winter 15 runway show last night, you will know that the all American designer went to town with his American football theme.

New York Fashion Week: Tommy Hilfiger Autumn/Winter 15

His runway, at the Park Avenue Armory, was carpeted with genuine astroturf with official pitch demarkations, the audience sat in bleacher likes seats, a huge jumbotron screen was erected just like a real football game. The works. "I've always been inspired by American football," said Hilfiger. "I love the uniforms, I love the game, I love the energy."

True to the Hilfiger design DNA, the show and the collection had a fair dose of that preppy USA collegiate style that we have come to expect with bomber jackets, soft stripe trims and the number 30 emblazoned to complete the sports look and nod to the 30 years of Hilfiger. The sports vibe was evident, but so was the luxe treatment; bombers came in soft satins and had knit textures at the collars, jumpers were hoisted to sumptuous highs with velvet bodices. We saw mohair, kick- pleats and soft empire lines.

The palette was exactly what you would hope a mixture of autumnal meets varsity football would be, navy blues, deep maroons and camel and gold lighter notes. Hilfiger's Autumn/Winter 15 offering made it effortlessly to the end zone.
