See Sandra Mansour’s football-inspired capsule for the Buro 24/7 x Farfetch Initiative

Sportswear has never looked so good
Beirut-based designer Sandra Mansour landed herself a spot in this year's Buro 24/7 x Farfetch Initiative — here's what she came up with...

The World Cup may have come to an end last night with a nail-biting final between France and Croatia, but we’ve still got football on the brain here at Buro HQ thanks to this year’s Buro 24/7 x Farfetch Initiative (BFFI). First started in 2014, the BFFI was established to support emerging fashion talents from across the globe and this year, Sandra Mansour is representing the Middle East in the program. Joining other designers from Russia, Singapore, Brazil, Mexico, China and Ukraine, Beirut-based Mansour was tasked with designing a football-inspired kit to be sold on Farfetch.

Now, the pieces are finally complete and are available to purchase.

We caught up with Sandra for a quick chat about the process, her inspirations and whether sportswear is something we’ll see more of from her in the future…

How long in the making was this collection?

It took around two months for the entire collection to come to life, from design to execution.

The sports kit was the starting point but what other inspirations did you draw from to create  your pieces?

We took a lot of inspiration from the Russian Coat of arms, as well as football references like the red card given to players in games.

What materials are used in the pieces?

Mainly cotton, we really tried to make it a jersey sportswear capsule collection.

What kind of person did you have in mind when designing these pieces?

We designed these pieces for both women and men. We wanted to create pieces that were both chic and sporty, channelling the ’90s.

You’re known for your elegant eveningwear, so these pieces are a departure from that given that they’re sportswear — how did you go about fusing your own aesthetic into this collection?

By keeping it simple, and focusing on the little details that made the pieces standout with our brand aesthetic.

Having tried your hand at this now, could we see Sandra Mansour athleisure-wear in the future?

Of course its a possibility, but not anytime soon. We have bigger things coming!
