Ralph Lauren is the latest brand to stop using mohair

Following pressure by PETA
In a major moment for the animal rights movement, yet another luxury label has announced that it will stop using mohair in its products...

Cruelty to animals in fashion has long been a problem in the industry, but it seems that 2018 is the year for luxury brands to embrace change and go fur-free.

Several major high street retailers are also taking a similar stand with Zara, Topshop, H&M and Gap announcing that they will ban all products made from mohair moving forward. Following suit was Gucci, who was the most recent luxury brand to announce that it will stop using angora in future collections by Alessandro Michele

Now, yet another fashion label has opted for a change and decided to stop using mohair in its products.

Joining the list of brands and retailers who have also agreed to stop using mohair is Ralph Lauren, and it was due to People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) successfully persuading the American fashion house to drop mohair from their fabrics sources.

According to FortunePETA’s Director of Corporate Affairs, Anne Brainard, said: “PETA’s exposé pulled back the curtain on the violent mohair industry, and Ralph Lauren responded by banning the cruelly produced material. Ralph Lauren has joined the growing list of fashion brands that recognize that today’s shoppers don’t support cruelty to animals in the fashion industry.”
