Raf Simons threw the invitees to his Dior Cruise 2015/16 presentation, a last minute curve ball when he changed the date and location of his show, to an undisclosed location in the Cote d'Azure. And what a spectacular address he landed on, the Palais Bulles Villa Pierre Cardin, which translates as 'the bubble house.' The house has a fashion heritage of its own, belonging to French sartorial designer, Pierre Cardin.

Perched just outside of the Cannes bay, the hilltop home is perfectly appointed for this event, boasting a panoramic lounge and an open-air amphitheater with 500 seats. It's no wonder Simons leapt on it when it became available. The riviera sun was gleaming down over the azure waters off setting the many sheer and shimmering pieces from the Cruise lineup.

Perhaps the most eye catching creations were the series of tops and dresses, woven from shimmering metallic threads in horizontal lines, like a series of horizons layered upon each other.  The powder blue and cloudy whites melded into bronze sandy shades and, some other variant palettes, these blended perfectly into the layered vista from the house, from the terracotta building to the dusky sky and sea, as if the view itself had inspired the design.

Simons cuts hems high in this collection, playing with waist lines that are cut just below empire and just above the natural waist, creating eye catching and interesting silhouettes. Various check prints bring a seasonal and relaxed note to the these long sleeved short hemmed dresses and skirts. Sleeves are structured and voluminous in the middle, somehow balancing out the shorter lengths. Pin tuck folds at the waist line and quasi-peplum turn overs at the side of the waist show the detail and thought the Simons has given the feminine form.
