Naomi Campbell is advancing her 'television' aspirations by landing her own web series on Yahoo. The original supermodel has appeared in a string of modelling talent competitions such as The Face, where her outspoken manner garnered plenty of attention. She has also recently made a cameo in the hot new U.S. series Empire.

Yahoo announced the plans for the new digital series, entitled – I am Naomi, on Monday in New York. Campbell will executive produce the series that will provide viewers with: "a backstage pass as she spends time with the world's most powerful and influential people." It is set to air on Yahoo Screen, the on-demand streaming service.

"I think there's something so unpredictable and, like the word that she used onstage last night, spontaneous about her," said Yahoo Style editor-in-chief Joe Zee. "But my favourite part about Naomi is that a lot of people don't know how hysterical she is, full of bites. You've seen her on TV before and she's always so funny and really engaging."

The show format will meld part reality series and part talk show as it follows the life of the busy supermodel as she rubs shoulders with her high powered friends: "So many different people from different walks of life love her," Zee said. "She was with Hillary Clinton the other night and she knows Oprah and Justin Bieber is obsessed with her. I thought, 'Who else can get the cross section of people that Naomi can?'"

I am Naomi will be Yahoo's biggest digital production to date, although there is no set timeline for when filming will take place or the first episode will air. Stay tuned to Buro 24/7 Middle East for more on this story...
