Moncler assembles an all-star crew of designers
A brand new approach to design
Late last year, Moncler announced that it was discontinuing its Gamme Rouge and Gamme Bleu lines (designed by Giambattista Valli and Thom Browne respectively) leaving many to wonder what the future of the Italian outerwear brand was.
But it turns out we needn't have worried, as the brand has just announced a new super strategy for its collections moving forward.
Called Genius, the brand's new project is bringing together eight key designers to design eight separate collections for the brand that will be released one month at a time following the group reveal at the upcoming Milan Fashion Week on February 20.
The new strategy will be designed as follows: Line 1 will be designed by Valentino's Pierpaolo Piccioli; Line 2, titled 1952, will be pulled together by Karl Templer; Line 3 will be the brand's technical ski line, Grenoble, and will be designed by Sandro Mandrino; Line 4 by Simone Rocha; Line 5 by Craig Green; Line 6 by Kei Ninomiya; Line 7 by Hiroji Fujiwara of Fragment; and Line 8 by Palm Angel's Francesco Ragazzi, the brand's Artistic Director.
Of the project, Pierpaolo told Vogue US, "The spirit of the project is something daring: It emphasises the value of creativity and talent. It is something challenging for me to work with totally different materials and the totally different DNA of the brand."
When they drop, the collections will each be available to purchase exclusively through one of the brand's e-tail partners for five days before hitting stores globally.
