With some of the coolest, youngest names in the industry sat front row – including It-girls Alexa Chung and Sofia Richie – one year into their tenure at Marc by Marc Jacobs, Luella Bartley and Katie Hillier presented their youthful, energetic lineup for the Autumn/Winter 15 season at NYFW.

“We’ve learned a lot of commercial things from the market,” Hillier noted backstage. “It’s a business but it’s also finding the balance, not making it dumbed down just so it sells.”

...And sell it will. The Marc by Marc Jacobs AW15 range encompasses a long-list of must-have, wearable pieces including moto jackets, tailored shirts peppered with tulle, maxiskirts and smart day dresses.

Citing artist William Morris, the Guardian Angels, 1979 film The Warriors and Jeremy Deller’s political posters as their inspiration for the new season, Bartley and Hillier incorporated motifs such as 'Suffragette' and 'Our Future' – which were patched onto the bottom of skirts, and down the sides of pants. It's powerful stuff, but in a subtle way: “There’s a bit of protest, but it’s more youth culture and power to change,” said Bartley.
