Lanvin's owner, the Taiwanese publishing magnate Saw-Lan Wang is said to be considering selling her stake in the luxury French fashion house, after reports surfaced that she had made an informal approach to a high-powered family in Asia.

Although it is said that no formal talks have taken place, investment banks have reacted to the rumours by making some unofficial overtures to the likes of Valentino owner Mayhoola for Investments SPC, French luxury groups Kering and LVMH Moët Hennessy Louis Vuitton, and several Chinese companies that have invested in luxury fashion.

When asked for a comment about the new rumours, a spokesperson at Lanvin said: "Madame Wang has received expressions of interest to acquire Lanvin, as in the past years, but she didn't respond."

73-year-old Wang has always referred to her Lanvin investment as a long-term partnership. She hired  Israeli designer Alber Elbaz in 2001 to inject new life into the brand, and has been very involved with its expansion in Asia. She has, however, been spending less time at the Lanvin HQ in Paris - leaving the day-to-day running of the luxury fashion house to Michèle Huiban, who was named Lanvin CEO in 2013.

According to sources, Wang has not been prepared to heavily invest in retail expansion and brand profile for Lanvin, which has sometimes led to the French fashion house tailing behind the likes of competitors Saint Laurent and Chanel.

WWD have quoted a source as saying "It's a very fluid situation. My guess is something will happen this year."

Wang bought Lanvin from L'Oreal in 2001, six years later she sold Lanvin's fragrance and cosmetics business to Inter Parfums SA for 22 million euros – explaining that the company needed these funds to develop its ready-to-wear and accessories business.

Lanvin reportedly generates sales of just under 250 million euros per year, last year the heritage house marked its 125th anniversary and a Jean Lanvin retrospective is currently on display at the Palais Galliera. It was also recently announced that Alber Elbaz would be making his first trip to the Middle East, to appear at a special event in Dubai – read the story here
