Exclusive: Yasmin Al Mulla’s newest collection is inspired by Dubai

Past, present, future
Dubai-based designer Yasmin Al Mulla has shared the first look of her new F/W '18 collection exclusively with Buro 24/7 Middle East. See it below...

With the new season in full swing, designers are releasing their new collections in droves but there’s one in particular that has caught our attention. Dubai-based designer Yasmin Al Mulla’s fall/winter 2018 campaign was inspired by the city in which she designs. The result is a stunning collection of easy-to-wear, elegant silhouettes that are perfect for the upcoming Eid Al Adha holiday and beyond. We caught up with Yasmin to talk about how Dubai inspired the collection in particular and her work as a whole, and what’s new this season…

How did Dubai inspire this new collection? Were there any places/buildings/people in the emirate in particular that you drew upon for inspiration?

The collection was formed by Dubai in all aspects. It was inspired by the impressive transformations over the years, astonishing details across the city, outstanding rapid developments and the captivating incarnation of Dubai’s urban beauty. Past, present, and future, this collection celebrates classical simplicity, minimal delicacy, and modern femininity.

Have you introduced anything new with this collection?

Yes, we have introduced a new silhouette this fall using rich Japanese textile. The strong sense of tranquillity pervaded the patterns for this season as I aspired to elevate classical kaftans into modern aesthetics formed by the beautiful Dubai.

What woman do you have in mind wearing these pieces?

A woman who appreciates beauty, treasures simplicity, and aspires to leave an impression.

How has Dubai inspired your label as a whole since you started it?

In a very, very positive way! Growing up in Dubai is a beautiful and inspiring thing, as the rapid developments in the city urge us to work hard to keep up and develop ourselves and goals, too! We are very driven in representing our country in a very positive way. As his Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum’s famous quote says: “Dubai will never settle for anything less than first place.” And that’s exactly what we are aspiring for. I truly believe that us as Emiratis are still attached to our culture and heritage yet with a modern lens. Working hard to make a noticeable trace in the global fashion industry as a designer and entrepreneur from the UAE is my ultimate goal.
