On May 11, Raf Simons will showcase his Cruise 2015/16 collection for Dior at the eye-catching seaside residence belonging to a Mr. Pierre Cardin. Palais Bulles – or 'Bubble Palace' in English – was created by the iconic Hungarian architect Antti Lovag, it is known for its Space-Age design and unbelievable views of the Riviera coast.

The futuristic residence was built between 1975 and 1989, and the iconic luxury French fashion house will unveil multiple showings at the conceptual architecture landmark this time next week.

There is of course, as ever, a reason behind the decision to show here – Pierre Cardin, who acquired the modernist icon (a movement of which has a fan in Raf Simons) in 1992, worked closely with Christian Dior in 1946 where he worked in the tailoring department, which created the maison's iconic 'Bar' jacket, a key part of the 'New Look' that made its historic debut on February 12 in 1947.

92-year-old Pierre Cardin, who following his time at Dior went on to open an empire of his own, described the Palais Bulles as "something of a gallery of living art" and his "little corner of paradise."

Of course Dior also has strong links with the cave-like structure's location in the South of France. Its founder, Christian Dior first visited the region in his twenties, later on going to buy a opulent nine-bedroom mansion – La Colle Noire – which according to sources, the fashion house recently re-purchased.

Christian Dior often fled to the south following his shows to brainstorm new collections and he had a special place in his heart for the Grasse region, which is world-renowned for its rose, and inspired over 50 dresses in the Dior archives.

The Raf Simons Cruise 2015/16 showcase will take place two days before the opening of the Cannes Film Festival, after it shifted from its original date of May 9 slated for LA. Of course the move was a smart one, as the world's biggest stars will all be in France for the iconic cinematic festival.

Just hours ago Karl Lagerfeld presented the Chanel Cruise 2015/16 collection in South Korea, selecting the DDP by Zaha Hadid in Seoul at his springboard. Later this week, on Wednesday, Nicolas Ghesquière will unveil his inter-season collection for Louis Vuitton at the Bob Hope estate in Palm Spring, California.
