9 Middle Eastern designers worn by celebrities in 2017

It's been a big year for some of our much-loved local labels

We know that Elie Saab, Zuhair Murad and Reem Acra are perennial red carpet favourites, however 2017 saw a slew of other Middle Eastern designers chosen by some of the world's biggest names. We take a look at who wore what below...

The Middle East is full of talented designers — a fact, rather than bias, based on the number of celebrities that chose designs crafted by local labels in the past year. From handbags to blazers, jumpsuits and jewellery, the likes of Gigi and Bella Hadid, Jessica Alba and Beyoncé opted for pieces designed in the region. Here, we take a look through some of those moments...

1. OKHTEIN

Started by sisters Aya and Mounaz Abdelraouf, Okhtein has gone from strength to strength in just a few short years. The proof? Gigi Hadid, Izabel Goulart and Beyoncé were spotted wearing bags from the brand this year. In fact, Gigi was spotted repping the label on multiple occasions...

2. LAMA JOUNI

A regular at Dubai's Fashion Forward event each season, Lebanese designer Lama Jouni launched her eponymous label in 2013. Known for her sleek cuts and Instagram-ready separates, the designer was put on the international map earlier this month when Bella Hadid sported a hoodie from her S/S18 collection.

3. BOUGUESSA

Luxury minimalist ready-to-wear label Bouguessa has long been a favourite of local fashion lovers and editors alike, but the brand gained several A-list followers this year too, including Jessica Alba, Halima Aden and Beyoncé.

4. AZZI & OSTA

Beirut-based label Azzi & Osta are known for their stunning eveningwear and structural separates and the brand was recently sported by none other than Kendall Jenner. The model wore a pair of the label's trousers from the S/S18 collection to her family's Christmas party.

5. SEMSEM

Luxury ready-to-wear label SemSem is the brainchild of Abeer Al Otaiba. The brand designs luxury separates for the modern woman on the move, and found itself an all-star ambassador earlier this year when Blake Lively was snapped in one of the brand's jumpsuits.

6. L'AFSHAR

It was a stellar year for Dubai-based handbag label L'AFSHAR as designer Lilian Afshar's pieces were spotted on several red carpets the world over. Sara Sampaio, Diane Kruger, Sonam Kapoor, Kate Upton and Camilla Alves were all snapped accessorising with a clutch from the brand.

7. DONNA HOURANI

Donna Hourani's jewellery was spotted on local royalty on more than one occasion this year with Queen Rania wearing earrings and a bracelet from the local designer to various events. British popstar Jessie J is a fan too having sported several pieces from the designer during a performance this year.

8. NATHALIE TRAD

Nathalie Trad's designs for her eponymous Dubai-based label are easily identifiable, and we spotted them on a handful of celebrities across the past year including Olivia Palermo, Sonam Kapoor, Adwoa Aboah and Sienna Miller
