The official poster for the 71st Venice International Film Festival
The 400 Blows
Antoine Doinel – the main character and the director's alter ego in his other titles (played by Jean-Pierre Léaud) – features in the illustration, which is the final frame of the film, after Antoine escapes from reform school and stares into the camera.
This marks the third year in a row that the Italian animator Simone Massi designed the Venice Film Festival poster. Massi has also designed the opening sequence, which over the last two years has preceded films playing at the festival. The sequence is comprised of 300 hand-drawn illustrations that quote such iconic Euro directors as Federico Fellini, Theo Angelopoulos, Wim Wenders and Truffaut.
The Venice International Film Festival will run from August 27 – September 6. Alexandre Desplat will head the competition jury, the first time a composer has served as a jury president in the festival's history. The official lineup for the 2014 fest will be announced at the Rome press conference on July 24.
