The Duke and Duchess of Sussex smashed a Guinness World Record upon joining Instagram yesterday
Yesterday, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle officially joined Instagram with the launch of their new dedicated account, @SussexRoyal. It was an exciting moment for our feeds, and it seems that the feeling was mutual globally with the pair racking up a huge amount of followers (including Blake Lively and David Beckham) in a short amount of time. In fact, the pair smashed a Guinness World Record in the process.
The couple earned the record of "the fastest time to gain one million followers" after hitting six figures in under six hours. Five hours and 45 minutes to be exact. It's an impressive feat, but even more so when you consider the previous recordholder, K-pop singer Kang Daniel, came in at 11 hours and 36 minutes.
The new Instagram account follows the news that the Sussexes are splitting the royal household with the Cambridges ahead of the birth of their first child. It's a similar story over on Twitter, with @KensingtonRoyal now officially belonging to Prince William and Kate Middleton and Harry and Meghan's outings now being posted on @TheRoyalFamily account.
What a time to be alive.
