We always knew that Breaking Bad wasn't going to just vanish from our lives the moment that the last episode's credits rolled on our TV screens. The show and its characters have inspired a profound fan reaction that hasn't had the last word yet. The spin off Better call Saul, is sure to keep the show in our consciousness for some time to come.

In this vein the British Cartoonist, Ralph Steadman, created a series of illustrated portraits to cover the limited-edition Breaking Bad Blu-ray boxes. Steadman's illustrations, though abstract, manage to capture with ease the essence of the show and its characters, such as:  Walter White, Jesse Pinkman and Saul Goodman among others.

Too good to be confined to a limited-edition boxset cover, the artworks have been displayed in an exhibition titled Breaking Bad Character Portraits by Ralph Steadman at the 71a gallery in East London. The exhibition also featured a collection of Breaking Bad inspired artwork that Steadman curated.

"The whole series is a surprise, because I hadn't heard of it before I started doing the drawings. I watched the whole series over a period of just two weeks and then got withdrawal symptoms because there wasn't any more," explained Steadman of his 'homework' before starting work on the illustrations.

Steadman worked alongside the show's creator, Vince Gilligan, who is a big fan of the artist: "I can barely describe the combination of disbelief and giddy joy I felt when I heard he was on board to do it," Gilligan said.
