Paul Smith announces London's famous 'Secret' exhibition for Dubai
Coming to Art Dubai this month
Sir Paul Smith will introduce the inaugural RCA Secret Dubai exhibition, which will take place as part of Art Week, March 18 – 21. Dubai has been selected as the first city outside of London to stage the secret postcard exhibition and market, following its success on its home turf.
As one of the artists involved in this year's collection, Sir Paul Smith will travel to Dubai to launch the exhibition. Smith's constant curiosity and passion for creativity feed into his interest for art and design. Not only is he contributing to this year's exhibition in Dubai but he has contributed regularly to the London exhibition, with his own pocket-size pieces. As an intrinsic part of the initiative the designer is proud to introduce the project traveling to Dubai:
"The RCA Secret's project has been in existence in London for several years and has grown massively in popularity because there's a real sense of mystery and excitement. You never know whether you are going to get a postcard by an unknown artist-but one that you love-or one that you love by a famous artist. I'm delighted to be involved in the mystery travelling to Dubai for the first time," Sir Paul Smith explains.
Nearly 1,000 artists ranging from world class to up and coming, will create a one of a kind postcard sized piece ahead of the week-long fair. Artists may choose to paint, draw, sketch, photograph or even produce a 3D sculpture.
What makes this truly unique is that the postcards are displayed anonymously so buyers have the thrill of guessing which artist or designer has produced the work before they buy. For a mere 500AED this is an opportunity to own an item from a legendary artist – previous contributors include; Grayson Perry, David Bailey, Jeremy Deller, Sir James Dyson, Sir Paul Smith and Christopher Bailey.
To celebrate the occasion, Paul Smith will be hosting an evening of fashion at their newly relocated store at Mall of the Emirates on March 15 from 5–7pm.
