The man behind Central Park's 'The Gates', and other iconic installations around the world has unveiled a new ambitious project for Italy – 'Floating Piers'. Iconic Bulgarian artist, Christo has revealed plans for a pair of beautiful, floating gold fabric pier for Lake Iseo – marking his first artwork for Italy in over 40 years.

The artist, who once worked with wife Jeanne-Claude before her passing in 2009, has conceptualised a floating pier docking system for the lake, which encompasses three main bridges and a walkway. The hovering structure will serve as a connection for Sulzano, Monte Isaola and the tiny island of San Paolo, and feature 70,000 square metres of golden fabric.

The ambitious artwork will be installed and appear for just 16 days next year, before being removed and recycled. Take a look at the sketches below.
