Beyonce, Oprah and George Clooney join Hurricane Harvey charity telethon
In the wake of Hurricane Harvey American muslims have donated to the relief effort, following a call out from the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR). In the public announcement, CAIR's National Executive Director Nihad Awad said: "We urge members of the American Muslim community to donate an amount equivalent to the cost of their (Eid) sacrifice to help those who are in such desperate need because of the unprecedented natural disaster in Texas." Now American celebrities are also set to contribute to the cause. Beyonce, Oprah, Jamie Foxx, Matthew McConaughey, George Clooney, Julia Roberts, Barbra Streisand and Reese Witherspoon are raising funds for those affected by the hurricane, which swept through Texas last month, with a telethon and concert. The live event, which is set to take place on September 12, will see the Texan-based celebrities take phone calls from the public who want to pledge donations, as well as performances from singers and activists.
The dial-a-celebrity telethon will air on Fox. Also stay connected to Buro 24/7 Middle East for more celebrity news.
