Sarah Burton, Mary Katrantzou & Valentino design NYC ballet costumes

Tiny dancer

The dance highlight of the New York City Ballet's autumn gala might be choreography premieres by Liam Scarlett, Justin Peck and Troy Schumacher, but the fashion highlight will definitely be bespoke costumes by Sarah Burton, Mary Katrantzou, Thom Browne, Carolina Herrera and Valentino Garavani

Set to be held on 23 September at the Lincoln Center, each choreographer has collaborated with a designer: Peck with Katrantzou, Scarlett with Sarah Burton and Schumacher with Browne, while a pre-existing piece from Christopher Wheeldon will be re-costumed by Garavani and a piece by Peter Martins will feature new costumes by Herrera

This isn't the first time the New York City ballet has looked to fashion – it has previously collaborating with Rodarte on costumes in 2012, as well as Prabal Gurung, Iris van Herpen and Oliver Theyskens in 2013.
