Oscar-winning Italian director, Paolo Sorrentino, has announced that he will direct Jude Law in a new mini-series for television called – The Young Pope. The director made the announcement in Cannes before debuting his new film Youth.

The series will take the form of an eight-part drama and will follow the life of Lenny Belardo, an Italian-American born man, a "complex and conflicted character" who is "stubbornly resistant to the Vatican courtiers" who becomes the pope.

In an interview last year, producer Lorenzo Mieli said that the Young Pope character would be up there with classic television icons such as Walter White in Breaking Bad and Tony Soprano in The Sopranos. And if that is the case, we think Law is the perfect casting. Shooting for the Sky-HBO co-production will begin this summer.
