First reported on Buro 24/7 Middle East back in February, further details about the theatre production celebrating Alexander McQueen's life have now been revealed. Written by James Phillips, and directed by Shakespearean veteran John Caird, the play is scheduled to open on May 12 this year at the St. James Theatre.

This weekend the impressive cast has been revealed. Glee star Dianna Agron will make her British stage debut playing a fictional character Dhalia, and the Laurence Olivier award-winning Stephen Wight will play the lead – Alexander Lee McQueen. British actress Tracy-Ann Oberman will also play Isabella Blow. Wight has starred in the BBC's Sherlock TV series, and a plethora of stage productions including Michael Grandage’s Don Juan in Soho.

According to the team, the production will act as “more than a bio play,” and is described as “a journey into the visionary imagination and dark dream world of Alexander McQueen.”

Inspired by McQueen's iconic Autumn/Winter 08 show 'The Girl who live in the Tree', the story imagines a girl breaking into McQueen's Mayfair apartment to steal a dress, but ends up “embarking on a journey through London [with him] and into his heart.”

A spokeswoman for Alexander McQueen the label said that it was not involved in the production, but that it had been written in co-operation with members of McQueen’s family.
