A new format for the MTV awards show not only celebrated fine artistic works but also featured a history-making category. Buro 24/7 Middle East has the details...

MTV hosted the Movie and TV Awards last night at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles, with the popular network extending its cinematic awards to include a wide range of television genres — think movies, documentaries and talk shows.

Hosted by actor Adam Devine, the event saw a host of winners including Emma Watson for Best Actor in a Movie, the first of its kind in history. The revolutionary award category dismisses the gender-based categories of its peers such as the Oscars and Golden Globes and instead promoted a more neutral competing platform based solely on performance. Likewise, Millie Bobby Brown was also awarded Best Actor in a Show for Stranger Things. Other notable winners on the night were Trevor Noah and Taraji P. Henson.
