Starting with National Day celebrations and DIFF's dedicated film event to experience New Year’s Eve, the city’s scene is offering a series of not-to-be-missed events this month...
National Day celebrations at La Mer
Start the festive season right this month as the UAE celebrates its 46th birthday. Dubai's newest it destination, aptly titled La Mer, is the best place to celebrate the long weekend with a range of events and a stunning fireworks display taking over the shores of the city. Happy birthday, UAE!
The National Day celebrations at La Mer runs from December 2-3.
2017 Dubai International Film Festival (DIFF)
Every year, Dubai hosts a series of movie screenings at the Dubai International Film Festival. This year, the festival is set to take place in several locations across the city — think Madinat Jumeirah, Souk Madinat Theatre, The Beach, Mall of the Emirates, and Galleria Mall — and will showcase exclusive screenings, panel sessions and a coveted red carpet. Expect to see films including the Darkest Hour, Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle, I, Tonya, Hunting Season and Goodbye Christopher Robin.
DIFF 2017 will run from December 6-13.
Street culture, fashion, food and sneakers are at the forefront of Sole DXB, which is back for another year. The two-day festival will include a series of activities, sneak peeks, panel talks and exclusive films screenings.
Sole DXB will run from December 7-9.

Katy Perry at du Arena
Katy Perry is set to jet into Abu Dhabi to end 2016 in style. Confirmed to play at the Du Arena on Yas Island on New Year's Eve, the American singer will lead New Year celebrations with hit songs including "Roar", "Firework", "Bon Appétit", "Chained to the Rhythm" and "Feels" featuring Calvin Harris and Pharrell Williams.
Katy Perry will perform on December 31 at the Du Arena, Yas Island, Abu Dhabi.
Opera Gallery Dubai final exhibition
A new series of artworks are set for display at the Opera Gallery Dubai — a curated space that offers exclusive artworks — who have confirmed their final exhibition of 2017. The new exhibition titled Opposite Attracts will showcase two artists' contemporary works. Pascal Haudressy and Alfred Haberpointner, the duo that have created a total of 25 artworks that explore contemporary art through modern technology and one of the most organic materials, wood, will open on December 6.
Opposite Attracts, Opera Gallery Dubai will run from December 6-21 at DIFC.
