With modest wear set to be the buzzword during Ramadan, a fashion book titled Sultani –Traditions Renewed offers an insight into the UAE's own traditional dressing for women. Compiled by Iraqi-born author Dr. Reem El Mutwalli, the book details the changing styles of the now-ubiquitous black abaya while the nation was under the leadership of Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan, between 1966 and 2004. In addition to the commentary on how socio-economic as well as geographical and political factors play a part in the evolution of the dress, the book also contains imagery of exclusive pieces from royal collections, including a gold-studded dress by Sheikha Hamda Bint Mohammad Al Nahyan.
