Book of the Week: Sultani – Traditions Renewed
Focus on UAE fashion
With modest wear set to be the buzzword during Ramadan, a fashion book titled Sultani – Traditions Renewed offers an insight into the UAE's own traditional dressing for women. Compiled by Iraqi-born author Dr. Reem El Mutwalli, the book details the changing styles of the now-ubiquitous black abaya while the nation was under the leadership of Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan, between 1966 and 2004. In addition to the commentary on how socio-economic as well as geographical and political factors play a part in the evolution of the dress, the book also contains imagery of exclusive pieces from royal collections, including a gold-studded dress by Sheikha Hamda Bint Mohammad Al Nahyan.
Sultani – Traditions Renewed, is priced at Dhs1,500 and is available at Polette Concept Store, City Walk Dubai. Also, learn about the charms of Christian Dior's inspirational getaway home in the book, Christian Dior in the South of France – The Château de la Colle Noire.
