Your complete guide to Art Dubai 2018

You don't want to miss this...
Here's what you need to see and do at this year's edition of Art Dubai 2018...

Now in its 12th edition, Art Dubai, one of the region’s largest gatherings for galleries, artists and exhibitions, is back for 2018 with a jam-packed schedule. This year, Madinat Jumeirah will host over 100 different galleries from 48 countries, and its offerings lead the way for the regional arts community.

Here’s what’s on the schedule…

Art Dubai Contemporary and Modern

The event’s most diverse edition to date, Art Dubai’s Contemporary section will feature 78 galleries from 42 countries including first-time participants from Iceland, Ethiopia and Kazakhstan. Also in the halls, regional galleries including Agial Art Gallery from Beirut, ATHR from Jeddah, Carbon 12 from Dubai and VOICE Gallery from Morocco will showcase their latest exhibitions.

Art Dubai Modern 2018 will present 16 galleries from 14 countries, who are on site to exhibit their works by twentieth-century masters. For the first time, Art Dubai Modern will offer the opportunity to see galleries present curated collective exhibitions and will include solo and two-artist shows.

Art Dubai Residents

Last month, Art Dubai announced that it is introducing a new programme called Residents and now we’ve got full details on the inaugural artist residency programme. This year’s edition has gathered 11 international artists to create works of art that are inspired by their time in the UAE. The final works will be on display in the new section of the fair, presented by the artists’ respective galleries.

Tour: Piaget’s ‘Sunlight Journey’

Piaget is set to showcase their latest creations of jewellery and timepieces inspired by the scenic beauty of the Amalfi Coast during Art Dubai and we’ve got a hint of what to expect. Titled Sunlight Journey, the new collection was inspired by the different times of the day from sun up to midday and sundown and the collaboration between the maison and Art Dubai marks the duo’s third partnership together. Plus, be sure to check out the installation at the back of the showcase space, designed by Emirati artist Jawaher Al Khayyal.

Last year, Piaget hosted one of the must-see highlights of the fair with its Sunny Side of Life exhibition.

 Julius Baer Presents Karim Noureldin

One of Switzerland’s leading private banking groups, Julius Baer, has commissioned Swiss-Egyptian artist Karim Noureldin to create two exclusive large-scale textile artworks. The presentation of these works will mark the first time the artist will be showcased in the Middle East.

The artworks are a mesmerising installation of collective works based on drawings and have been produced with two renowned producers of handmade woven textile objects in India: Bharat Carpet Manufactures and Rajput Arts.

Global Art Forum 12: “I Am Not A Robot”

One of the key parts of the city’s annual art calendar is the Global Art Forum and this year, the edition will focus on the “power, paranoia and potentials of automation”. The theme for the Forum’s 12th edition of Global Art Forum is titled ‘I Am Not A Robot’, and will bring together leading minds from several different fields to discuss the exciting topic.

Art Dubai is set to run from March 21-24 and will take place at Madinat Jumeirah, Dubai. For more information and tickets on the fair, visit www.artdubai.ae
