Exclusive: Guerlain's Creative Director Olivier Échaudemaison on the brand's new holiday collection
'Tis the season to shine
What colour trends are you into right now for the festive season?
This festive season is made of metallic and electric warm colours. The Météorites Electric Pearl and Terracotta Electric light will perfectly highlight and illuminate your skin for a total festive makeup look. For the lips, Rouge G, KissKiss and Gloss d'Enfer have been redesigned to offer different kinds of effects: intensely pigmented, matte, and glittering.
What are your rules for a total beauty look?
Never too much make-up! The most important thing to me is to respect the personality. The key for women is to have beautiful skin. Applying a light but covering foundation such as Lingerie de Peau is the best way to have a natural look. Then, sculpting the face is very important: highlighting the points of light and working on cheekbones and brows. When it comes to colours, they are mostly applied on lips and nails with strong and pigmented colours. It's the playful part where you can dare and change looks depending of your meetings, parties, clothes...
How would you describe the holiday makeup collection?
This holiday makeup collection is very sophisticated, and shiny with a festive spirit. Each product has a golden touch whether it's the shade or the packaging. Gold is part of the DNA of the brand. Guerlain has always been using golden touches, on packaging or in some products (like Orchidée Impériale and Abeille Royale for the skincare). In winter, gold warms up!
Tell us a little about the Electric Look Palette which is exclusive for the holidays...
This Electric Look Palette is showcased in an elegant sleek black lacquered compact. Inside, you find warm and cold shades: there are three applicators, two frosted silver and icy gold highlighters with a creamy powder finish, along with eight shadows that can be used wet or dry to adorn lids in matte and metallic colors. This palette is perfect for any type of looks.
What is your approach when creating seasonal makeup looks?
A seasonal look is more elaborate than the makeup your wear daily - the colours are more daring. During Christmas, women like to express themselves with festive colours so it's the perfect occasion to be glamourous and use colors they usually don't wear in their daily life.
