Exclusive: Recreate the beauty look from Chanel’s Cruise 2020 show

Black lips? Why not...
All aboard the Chanel express! Not only was Chanel's Cruise 2020 show about the clothes, but it was about the beauty looks too...

Chanel’s Cruise 2020 show was indeed a momentous one for the maison. Not only did it mark Virginie Viard’s solo debut at the fashion house but, the showcase also highlighted a brand new direction for Chanel, both in terms of the clothes and the beauty looks.

Courtesy of Chanel’s Global Creative Makeup and Colour Designer, Lucia Pica, the beauty looks saw a play between soft and subtle, as well as sultry and striking.

Serving up the perfect balance of inspiration for your next night out, we’re going to tell you how to achieve Chanel’s Cruise 2020 makeup look by going backstage…

On the skin…

Complete with Chanel’s much-loved Les Beiges complexion tint (we’re quite obsessed with it), the beauty look first starts off with a hydrated, moisturised and cleansed face that reveals a natural glow. Next up, the Correcteur Perfection concealer is used to conceal any blemishes before adding a dust of the lightweight Poudre Universelle Libre formula. The new Chanel Duo Bronze Et Lumière palette is what to use for the ultimate bronze, followed by a sweep of the transparent Baume Essentiel for a natural highlight.

On the eyes…

Pica defined the models’ eyes by using Chanel’s easy-to-use Stylo Ombre Et Contour pens in different taupe shades to smudge around the eye creases, as well as the lower lash line for more definition. Plus, to make the eyes pop, the make-up artist used the Stylo Yeux Waterproof in Blanc Graphique in the waterline. As for defining your lashes, the Le Volume Révolution de Chanel mascara is the way to go and to set your eyebrows in place, use the Pinceau Duo Sourcils brow gel.

On the lips…

The lips were our favourite part! Some of the models were left with au natural lips, however, it wouldn’t quite be a Chanel showcase without a bold red lip, courtesy of Rouge Allure Velvet Extrême in Rose Obscur. However for Cruise 2020, Pica gave the beauty look a gothic twist with a swipe of Rouge Coco Gloss in Laque Noire. Yep, that’s right — a black hue.

“I noticed that in Virginie’s collection there was an element of black going through: whether it be a ribbon, or pants, even the coloured looks, that is why I added a black mouth,” explained Pica.

Now, discover Chanel’s J12 watch campaign, which features a very starry line up.
