Saudi Arabia allows women to become notaries

Mabrook!
The string of positive news out of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia continues today as we learn that women have gained rights to another first in history...

It’s been less than a month since the driving ban on women in Saudi Arabia was officially  lifted

And now, more good news emerged has emerged from the Kingdom overnight with the announcement that women will be able to become notaries for the first time in history.

Joining the pool of more than 1,300 male notaries in Saudi Arabia, the Ministry of Justice has granted verification licenses to 12 women so far.

Their new roles will involve witnessing document signings, verifying a person’s identity, issuing and cancelling powers of attorney, and many more government-related tasks.

According to Al Arabiya English, one of the recently licensed women at a private notary said: “Since this is the first time women pursue and accept this profession, we are excited about this new challenge and willing to show our hard work and commitment. We are the first to join this busy profession, but we expect many women to join us soon… There is so much to learn, issuing and cancelling the power of attorneys, notarising documents and other legal services we offer help us learn and understand the legal system.”
