Kering, Ganni and Zara to adopt more sustainable practices by 2020

In line with recommendations from the Global Fashion Alliance
In big news for some of the world's most recognisable names in fashion, 64 companies have pledged to be more sustainable by 2020. Buro 24/7 Middle East has the details...

More and more, fashion houses across the world are realising the importance of sustainability. Consumers these days are demanding more accountability from brands in regards to recyclability as well as the impact of certain fabrics on the environment. As a result, 64 global brands have committed to implementing more sustainable practices by 2020.

Led by the Global Fashion Alliance (GFA), companies including ASOS, Zara, Target and Kering (which owns Gucci, Stella McCartney and Balenciaga among many others) have submitted targets based on recommendations made by the GFA. According to WWD, these targets cover “sustainable design, garment collection, repurposing and the use of recycled textiles by 2020.”

Kering told the site that its targets included finding “the most promising pre- and post-consumer raw material recycling technologies for luxury and will start scaling them up the supply chain.”

Interestingly, each of the companies will have to submit a progress report in May of this year that will reportedly be made public, giving the brand’s extra incentive to hit their targets so as to avoid public disapproval.
